Project Overview
The DMA is a museum located in Dallas, Texas that acts as a catalyst for community creativity that engages with people of all ages and backgrounds with a diverse spectrum of programming. They were interested in creating an interactive map that users could pull up on their phones as they explored the museum. At the time, it only existed as a static PDF on their website and as a museum pamphlet. They wanted the new map to condense three layouts into one, allow users to filter through different floors and exhibits, and include pop-ups that would feature exhibit information. Unfortunately, they didn’t know how to begin and did not have the bandwidth for this ambitious project and requested my team at Ceros for assistance.

Utilizing their brand
The DMA team provided an extensive branding kit for me to use for the map. During my review, I found opportunities to add animation and interactivity to assets so that they would increase engagement with users. Knowing that I would need to find a solution that would condense the floor plans, I compiled different modules, such as carousels, pop-up windows, and tab systems within Ceros, a no-code publishing platform. I also made sure that the modules would be easy to update and be reusable for future projects.

Wireframing the Layout
My approach was to keep the interface similar to the existing PDF in order to preserve a familiarity between visitors and the current map. For the user experience, I decided to tweak and use the tab system module I created as a "filter" between each floor. If a user clicks on a particular floor, only its layout, exhibits, and amenities will appear. I also provided an option where a user can click on a map icon of an amenity, the map will show them if it's located on their current floor.

Full Design
After I presented and gained the DMA team's approval for the layout and animations/interactions, I built out the map using the modules that I previously created in the brand toolkit. Since most of the heavy lifting was done, it was just a matter of incorporating the modules and tweaking with the interactions so that there were no errors and that the map was intuitive enough.

Outcome
Upon completion, the map experience was sent over to the DMA team and they were very pleased with the final product. They would then work with their IT department to implement the experience onto their website and make it accessible for visitors. Not only did we accomplish the task, but we also showed DMA the possibilities of converting static content into engaging digital experiences.
